Austin McKinley is in his first year as an Athletic Academic Coach in the Athletics Department at
San José State.
In his role, McKinley works to ensure student-athletes meet NCAA regulations regarding
academic eligibility, assists in career development, performs one-on-one counseling with
student-athletes, and advises on general university policies and procedures.
Prior to his position in the department, McKinley worked as an Academic Advisor for graduate
students at Southern New Hampshire University, advising students on their curriculum and
degree requirements as well as resolving academic difficulties.
San Jose State is his first position in athletics however he has prior experience working with the
New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays as well as with the
Providence Bruins, the AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins. Both of which were prior to his time as
an Academic Advisor at Southern New Hampshire University.
When not working with student-athletes, McKinley spends his time watching sports, reading
about history, and exploring the Bay Area with his dog Daisy.
McKinley earned his B.S. in Business Studies with a concentration in Sport Management from
Southern New Hampshire University in 2018, and his M.S. in Sport Management in 2023 also
from Southern New Hampshire University.
