Jeff Austin was appointed as a volunteer assistant coach to the baseball team in the fall of 2012.
Austin immediately brought professional experience to the Spartans as he was the Kansas City Royals number one pick in the 1998 draft (4th overall). He pitched for the Kansas City from 1999-2003 and then the Cincinnati Reds in 2003-04.
Following his pro baseball career Austin returned to his alma mater Stanford. While simultaneously working at Google, Austin was the full-time pitching coach for the Cardinal during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. He led the 2008 pitching staff that went to the College World Series and was the national 3rd place finisher.
Austin was a two-time team captain at Stanford and a National Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year in 1998.
Austin is currently the Enterprise Channel Manager at Google INC. and resides in Redwood City, Calif.
