Jenny Heimstead (Miller) returns to the San José State University Athletics Department as the assistant athletics director for compliance. Heimstead began her new position on February 1, 2021.
A familiar face to San José State, the former Jennifer Miller worked at San José State for four-plus years as the compliance coordinator (2005-2009). She worked closely with coaches and academic counselors regarding eligibility, rules education and certification of freshmen and transfers. Heimstead graduated in 2008 from the NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement.
Heimstead came to San José State from Cal Poly Pomona where she worked seven years as the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Internal Relations. She provided compliance oversight for the department and issued national and conference letters-of-intent. She worked closely with the Financial Aid Office, Registrar's Office, Housing Office, International Office, bookstore and ASI to ensure compliance with NCAA rules. Heimstead also served on the Racial Equity Subcommitee, the Student Engagement Committee, the ASI Board of Governors and worked several athletic department events including hosting several postseason championships. Heimstead also served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor.
Prior to position at Cal Poly Pomona, Heimstead spent three years (2011-14) as the Director of Compliance at UC Riverside where she developed and coordinated a comprehensive athletics compliance office and provided guidance and support to the department. Heimstead worked for two years as the Compliance Coordinator at UC Irvine (2009-11) after leaving San José State.
Currently, she is a member of Women Leaders in College Sport (formerly NACWAA) and the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). She has served on the NCAA Academics Requirement Committee (vice chair), the DII Interpretation Subcommittee, the NCAA Subcommitee for Initial Eligibility and the NCAA Student Records Review Committee (chair).
Heimstead graduated from Humboldt State with a bachelor of arts degree in liberal studies in 2003 where competed in cross country and track and field. She also has completed her coursework from San José State for her master's degree in kinesiology-sport sociology.
