Justin Allegri was hired as the lead play-by-play broadcaster for San José State football and men’s basketball in June of 2013. Known as the “Voice of the Spartans” Allegri’s well-versed background in broadcasting San José State sports goes back nearly a decade.
Fans can hear Allegri’s call for San José State football games on the Spartan Radio Network led by KLIV 1590 AM and other California affiliates based in Salinas, Stockton, Modesto and San Francisco. KLIV also carries all home and away broadcasts for men’s basketball which Allegri has been on play-by-play now for six seasons.
Allegri began calling games as an up-and-coming broadcaster during his undergraduate studies in San José State’s Radio, TV and Film department. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the program in 2010 along with a minor in broadcast journalism. He went on for master’s degree at SJSU in journalism and new media which he received in 2013.
On his way to a second degree Allegri was behind the microphone for San José State football, basketball, baseball, women’s volleyball and softball. He also spent two full seasons as the broadcaster for the SJSU ice hockey team.
Upon finishing graduate school and on top of his broadcasting assignments, Allegri was hired as San José State’s digital media coordinator in July of 2014. He currently hosts, edits and produces the weekly 30-minute Spartan Sports Report which runs frequently throughout the week on NBC Sports California.
Allegri also hosts and engineers the one-hour weekly football coaches’ show and is San José State’s coordinator for all live broadcasts on the Mountain West Network.
While his voice is heard locally and regionally with his SJSU broadcasts, he is heard around the world on Sony Playstation’s “MLB The Show”. Allegri began working with Playstation in 2014 and is in his third year as host of the “Road to the Show” segment of the video game.
Allegri can also be heard on broadcasts for the San Jose Giants, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. He is currently the secondary broadcaster for select home games, while taking the middle-innings assignment of other select games.
The native of Santa Cruz, Calif., currently lives in San Jose with his wife, Kassandra. When he's not back home shooting womp rats in his T-16, you can usually find Allegri at Tosche Station searching for power converters.
