Originally from Texas, Lori Hutson earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Austin. Before joining San José State University, she served as a Learning Specialist in Athletics at the University of Texas at Austin.
Lori has 22 years of experience teaching in public middle and high schools, working with students in Austin, New York City, and Compton, Calif. Her experiences in each of these communities have shaped the way she works with students and strengthened her commitment to meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.
As a Learning Specialist, Lori helps student-athletes develop executive functioning skills, build confidence, and find strategies that support their individual learning needs. She believes academic success is about more than grades. It is also about helping students become independent, confident learners who are prepared to manage challenges and pursue their goals.
Outside of work, Lori enjoys walking her dog, Norman, spending time near the ocean, and exploring new cities. She enjoys discovering new places and experiences and brings that same curiosity and enthusiasm to her work with students.
