Tutson joined the San José State University track and field staff as a throws coach in 2026 following a successful tenure at Eastern Washington University, where she coached the program’s throws events and developed student-athletes to conference, NCAA, and national-level success.
During her time at Eastern Washington, Tutson coached multiple conference podium finishers while producing 15 top-10 performances on the EWU all-time performance lists and five NCAA Regional qualifiers. She also coached an honorable mention All-American in the men’s discus, further establishing the Eagles’ throws program as a competitive force at the national level.
Tutson also represented the United States as a coach for Team Uni USA at the FISU America Games, where she coached athletes to eight medals, including gold medals in the women’s hammer and women’s shot put, a bronze medal in the women’s hammer, and silver medals in the men’s discus, men’s hammer, men’s javelin, and women’s javelin. Her experience on the international stage further reflects her ability to develop athletes competing at the highest levels of collegiate and international competition.
Prior to Eastern Washington, Tutson served as an assistant throws coach at the University of New Orleans during the 2021-22 season. During her time at New Orleans, she coached two conference champions in the men’s and women’s hammer throw, as well as two conference runners-up in the women’s discus and men’s weight throw. Her athletes also established a women’s discus school record and produced a men’s discus regional qualifier.
Tutson spent 2016-20 as an assistant coach at Alabama State University after beginning her tenure with the Hornets as a graduate assistant in 2014. During her time at Alabama State, she helped lead the program to 11 Indoor SWAC Championships and seven Outdoor SWAC Championships, while coaching 14 individual conference champions, 49 individual All-SWAC selections, and two SWAC Championship MVPs.
Tutson was a decorated student-athlete at the University of Iowa from 2009-13, earning All-American honors in the discus in 2013 and qualifying for NCAA Regionals in each of her four seasons. She was a two-time Big Ten Conference runner-up in the discus and was named Iowa’s Female Track and Field MVP as a senior. Tutson also held Iowa school records in the weight throw and discus.
Tutson earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa and went on to earn two master’s degrees from Alabama State University, completing them in 2016 and 2019.
