Matheo Hurtado joined the San Jose State University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics in August 2016 as an academic eligibility coordinator.
Hurtado's responsibilities include coordinating the University's NCAA Division I certification of eligibility process and procedures; coordinate, track and report student-athlete eligibility data for the NCAA's annual reports on academic progress rates (APR) and graduation success rates (GSR); and conduct academic evaluations and document NCAA eligibility status for all prospective transfer and continuing San Jose State student-athletes.
The 2014 San Jose State University graduate majored in business administration with a concentration in marketing. He began his professional career in June 2014 as a group counselor for the Santa Clara County Probation Department.
His first position in higher education started in February 2015 as an admissions counselor and recruiter for San Jose State's Division of Student Outreach & Recruitment. Hurtado created workshops and presentations on California State University (CSU) system and San Jose State University admission requirements, the CSU Mentor application process, and the Admission Possible and SJSU Next Steps programs for provisionally admitted students. He also served as a counselor and advisor for prospective resident, non-resident and international students on CSU system requirements and advised disqualified and returning students on academic procedures and degree requirements at San José State.
Fluent in Spanish and a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity as a San Jose State undergraduate, he has three seasons of high school coaching experience with the girls' soccer varsity teams at San Jose's Andrew Hill (2016) and Yerba Buena High (2017 & 2018).
Hurtado lives in San Jose.
