Matthew "Matt" Strapp has been with SJSU since August 2022. Currently, he is the media contact for baseball and men's and women's soccer and he served as the interim contact for women's basketball in December and January.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Strapp started his career working for Wilfrid Laurier University as the Assistant Communications Coordinator for Athletics in 2018. He worked at Wilfrid Laurier until 2020 while earning his bachelor's degree in communications from the school. During his time at Wilfrid Laurier, Strapp won two awards including the Bill Haggstrom Trophy for the Male Contributing Most to Athletics and the Golden Hawk Award of Excellence for Communications/Marketing.
In 2021, Strapp moved to the United States to pursue his master's degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco. While pursuing his master's degree, Strapp was able to gain valuable experience working in the sports industry in California, working for several different organizations including Wasserman, the Big West Conference, World TeamTennis and the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
In August 2022, Strapp started his tenure with SJSU as the first-ever Lawrence Fan Media Relations Intern. In October 2022, he was promoted to Assistant Director of Media Relations. For his contributions to Spartan athletics, Strapp was recognized as a Spartan Stepping Beyond in 2022 by Deputy Athletics Director, Scott MacDonald.
In his spare time, Strapp enjoys watching his long-suffering Toronto sports teams, playing guitar and exploring California.
