Niki Brooks begins her first season in 2013 as an assistant coach for San Jose State[apos]s women[apos]s soccer team. She brings six years of collegiate coaching experience, four years of strength and conditioning knowledge and a four-year career as a Division I goalkeeper.
Brooks joins San Jose State following a two-year assistant coaching stint at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. Working primarily with the team[apos]s defensive corps and goalkeepers, Brooks[apos] 2011 squad allowed one or fewer goals in 14 of its 18 matches.
Her first Division I assignment was as an assistant coach at the University of Idaho (2010), a season during which the Vandals appeared in their first-ever conference tournament. A record-setting season, Idaho set school records for wins and posted the second-lowest goals against average in program history.
Brooks began her collegiate women[apos]s soccer coaching career serving two years as Linfield College[apos]s defensive tactician and strength and conditioning coordinator. A second two-year assignment followed at Pacific University, where she was the Goalkeeper Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Her first position following her undergraduate career was as a graduate assistant coach in Portland State University[apos]s strength and conditioning program.
Brooks was a four-year member of the Portland State women[apos]s soccer team. The school[apos]s record holder in career saves and shutouts, Brooks was a member of the 2004 Big Sky Conference Champion team and a 2005 All-Big Sky Conference honorable mention.
Brooks also has experience coaching at the youth level. While working in Oregon from 2006 to 2011, she was the Head Girls Soccer Coach, Goalkeeper Coach and Director of Fitness Programming for the Tualatin Hills United Soccer Club. Alongside her assignment at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay from 2011 to 2013, she served as the Head Girls Soccer Coach and Goalkeeper Coach from FC Green Bay Soccer Club, and an Assistant Coach, Goalkeeper Coach and Development Coach for the Wisconsin Olympic Developmental Program.
A native of San Diego, Calif., Brooks graduated from Portland State in 2006 with a bachelor[apos]s degree in Physical Activity and Exercise, minoring in Sociology, and a Master[apos]s degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Health and Physical Education in 2010.
