After spending four years in the San Jose State athletics compliance department, Roseanne Oty became SJSU's Academic Eligibility Coordinator in the summer of 2020.
Oty's responsibilities include coordinating the University's NCAA Division I certification of eligibility process and procedures; coordinate, track and report student-athlete eligibility data for the NCAA's annual reports on academic progress rates (APR) and graduation success rates (GSR); and conduct academic evaluations and document NCAA eligibility status for all prospective transfer and continuing San Jose State student-athletes.
Oty originally accepted a SJSU position as director of athletics compliance in 2016. Oty oversaw NCAA and conference compliance in the areas of amateurism and student-athlete eligibility.
Prior to that position, Oty was affiliated with San Jose State since 2010 in positions focused on university admissions. Oty first joined the university as an admissions evaluator. From 2011 to 2015, she turned her attention to international student applicants and their university admissibility. Before moving over to San Jose State athletics, she spent a year as a counselor and recruiter for prospective international and non-resident students.
The graduate of Whitworth University majored in communications. She has a M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix and is pursuing a master’s degree in education at San Jose State.
Her career in higher education also includes positions in instructional services for the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training (SBRPST) consortium of Evergreen Valley, Gavilan, College of San Mateo and Monterey Peninsula Colleges and as an enrollment counselor for the University of Phoenix.
She holds a membership with the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC).
Locally, Oty serves as the secretary for the Morgan Hill (Calif.) Historical Society Executive Board of Directors. In the February/March 2019 issue of GMHToday.com, she was named one of the publication’s 12 “People to Watch – People Who Inspire Us” in 2019.
