Taylor Johnson joined the San Jose State University staff as the athletic performance lead assistant coach in March 2013.
At San Jose State, Johnson serves as the lead assistant to the football team’s athletic performance activities and manages and directs all athletic performance aspects for the baseball, softball and women’s volleyball teams. He also coordinates the nutrition and recovery programs for the Spartans’ 400-plus student-athlete population.
Johnson’s professional career in athletic performance encompasses working at Pac-12, SEC, Mountain West and Big West Conference schools. His career began at UC Davis working with the football, men's basketball, field hockey, women's lacrosse, women's volleyball and track and field programs.
During the 2011 fall season, he was at UCLA and worked with the Bruins' football and men's volleyball teams. He moved to cross-town Pac-12 Conference member University of Southern California for the 2012 spring season and worked with the Trojans' football, baseball, men's and women's water polo and women's crew teams.
Johnson was at Auburn University for the 2012 fall season and worked with the football, softball and women's equestrian teams.
The 2011 graduate of the University of California, Davis earned his master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2014.
He holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist; the American Red Cross in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), AED (automated external defibrillator) and first aid; and USA Weightlifting as a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach.
