Tony Giannotti begins his first season as an assistant coach with the San José State women[apos]s basketball program. In addition to his primary work with the team[apos]s post players, he also oversees the team[apos]s scheduling, and serves as the academic coordinator. As with all assistants on the staff, he does game scouting, film breakdown and recruiting.
Giannotti comes to San José State after two seasons as an assistant at Idaho State. In 2012-13, he helped lead the team to a Big Sky regular-season title, a Big Sky Tournament Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
In his first season, Giannotti coached ISU guards to first-team All Big Sky honors while another was named to the conference[apos]s all-tournament team.
Prior to Idaho State, Giannotti spent two seasons at New Mexico State (2009-10 and 2010-11). Following the 2009-10 regular season, New Mexico State accepted a bid to the Women[apos]s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), their first postseason appearance since 1994.
From 2006-08, he was an assistant coach at Saint Mary[apos]s College in Moraga, Calif.
His recruits made an impact on the Gaels program with three different players earning All-WCC honors including Louella Tomlinson who led the nation for two seasons in triple-doubles as well as in blocked shots, with 4.7 per game, during the 2010-11 season.
From 2003-06, he served as an assistant coach for the women[apos]s program at Southern Utah after being an assistant coach for a year for Thunderbirds men[apos]s program.
Giannotti earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in physical education from Southern Utah in 2000, specializing in coaching and athletic training. He and his wife, Suzette, were married in December of 2009 in Fort Myers, Fla.
