Colorado Springs, Colo. - San José State University was one of 31 schools honored for academic excellence by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).
As a team, the Spartans compiled a grade-point average of 3.22 for the 2012-13 academic year. San José State was second among Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) members. Only Stanford, among conference members, was slightly better at 3.28.
Nine of the 22 players on the 2013 team that finished 11th in the final national coaches poll were honored individually for achieving a 3.20 or higher grade-point average.
Seniors Anna Natalizio, a justice studies major from Irvine, Calif., and Kimber Methvin, a recreation and leisure studies major from Porterville, Calif., were recognized for their academic success for the fourth time. Junior Rachel Henry, a justice studies major from Santa Cruz, Calif., received her third ACWPC All-Academic national honor.
Timi Molnar, a behavioral studies and anthropology double major from Budapest, Hungary; Victoria Smith, a communication disorders and sciences major from Vancouver, B.C., each earned their second ACWPC All-Academic award.
Sophomore Dani Styles, a business management major from Laguna Niguel, Calif.; Orla Brazell, a business administration major specializing in international business from Long Beach; and freshmen Rae Lekness, a kinesiology major from Calgary; and Bianca Seyfert, from Krefeld, Germany complete the list of Spartans with a grade-point average of 3.20 or higher to earn national recognition for academic success.
