Silver Medal & Consolation Championship For Spartans

Volos, Greece---- Three San Jose State University players representing Spain and Canada, respectively, were winners at the 10th FINA World Women's Junior Water Polo Championships.

Sophomore Rae Lekness and incoming freshman Cara Robinson played for the Canadian national team that won the consolation championship in the 15-team, one-week tournament that concluded August 25.

Incoming freshman Clara Espar was the number-two scorer for Spain - the silver-medal winning team. Espar scored 10 goals including her second three-goal hat trick of the tournament in a 9-7 loss to the United States in the championship match. She opened the championship with three goals against Canada in round-robin bracket play.

Lekness and Robinson each scored in Canada's consolation championship win, 12-9 over New Zealand. Named to the 2013 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Newcomer team after leading the Spartans in scoring with 54 goals, Lekness finished with six scores in Canada's five matches. Robinson scored three times for the Canadians.
