Cross Country Heads Into The Valley For Fresno State Invitational

San José State's cross country season continues this Saturday, September 14 at the Fresno State Invitational in Fresno, Calif.

The men's four-mile run kicks off the event at 9:00 a.m. PDT followed by the women's 5K race at 9:45 a.m.

San José State, Cal Poly, CSU Fullerton, UC Merced, William Jessup, and host Fresno State will compete in both the men's and women's events held at Woodward Park. CSU Bakersfield is slated to run in the women's race.

"We are looking forward to this race," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "We'll get a chance to see how much we have progressed since our first meet."

The Spartans' most recent competition was on August 31 in the USF Invitational where the men's team finished fifth out of six and the women were sixth out of eight.

The Fresno State Invitational will be the first race hosted by the Bulldogs since the Western Athletic Conference Championship in 2006.

SJSU Men's Lineup: Jannik Ernst, Matthew Stephens, Nicholas Sherrell, Ben Branagh, Alexander Selevos, Samuel Ryan, Garrick Chan.

SJSU Women's Lineup: Rebecca Garcia, Lalida Maokhamphiou, Aylin Mejia, Nina Sassano, Marissa Buckley, Karina Nunes, Alexandra Seda, Joanna Reyes.

LAST TIME OUT

San José State last competed on August 31 in the USF Invitational at Golden Gate Park. The men's team fifnished fifth out of six with 140 points and the women were sixth out of eight with 171 points.

SOLID DEBUT FOR Jannik Ernst

San José State's first race of 2013 was also the first for Jannik Ernst, and he made the most of it with a top-15 finish. He completed the 8K-course at the USF Invitational (8/31) in 26:02.1 to lead the Spartans.

SCORING STREAK AT EIGHT FOR GARCIA

Junior Rebecca Garcia has scored in eight consecutive races for the Spartans dating back to her freshman year in 2011. She led San José State last time out, finishing the 5K USF Invitational in 19:03.0.
