SAN FRANCISCO -- The San José State women's cross country team finished in 8th place out of 12 teams with a 231 team score at the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The Spartans were led by Jenay Jauregui who finished the 6K course at Speedway Meadows in 24:14.3, good for 38th place.
Karina Nunes finished second for San José State in 40th place with a time of 24:15.8. Melanie Fujiwara (25:37.7, 68th place), Agnes Portal (26:12.3, 78th place) and Joanna Reyes (28:01.1, 99th place) also scored for SJSU in the race.
Cal State Stanislaus had two runners inside the top five and scored 38 points to win the team event. Courtney Anderson, an unattached runner, was the individual winner with a time of 21:32.5.
Also competing for San José State: Diana Orozco (28:28.2, 107th place) and Lourdes Amante (30:25.1, 117th place).
The Spartans have one last regular season race in 2013, the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. The race will be held in Baylands Park in Sunnyvale, Calif., starting at 9:00 a.m. on October 19.
