Sunnyvale, Calif. -- All six runners in the lineup for San José State achieved season-best times on Saturday at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale.
Jannik Ernst was the leader for SJSU, which scored 430 points for a 17th place finish. Ernst was 99th individually in a field of 193 with a time of 25:21.6. Close behind was freshman teammate Ben Branagh in 102nd place with a time of 25:23.0.
Matthew Stephens clocked a 25:37.4, good for 121st place, and Nicholas Sherrell came in 178th place with a time of 27:05.3. Samuel Ryan rounded out the scorers for the Spartans, finishing 182nd in 27:27.3.
"We saw some major improvements from a number of our athletes," said Spartans' distance coach Brad Wick. "A handful of them had personal bests and that's good to see."
Imran Zaman also competed for SJSU in the Men's 8K Open. Zaman finished the course in 30:52.2, goof for 186th place.
Loyola Marymount finished the invitational in first place with a team score of 84. UC Santa Barbara with 86 and Utah Valley with 92 were second and third. San Francisco's Eric Causey was the individual winner with a time of 23:39.6.
San José State will now set its sights on the Mountain West Championship in Colorado Spring, Colo. The conference championship is hosted by Air Force on November 1.
