San Jose, Calif. - Emma Entzminger, a member of the Canadian Women's National Team, has signed a National-Letter-of-Intent with the San José State University softball team to compete for the 2014-15 Spartans, head coach Peter Turner announced.
She is the third player to sign a National-Letter-of-Intent with the Spartans, joining Anessa Kaylor and Daisy Conchas, a pair of all-league Californians who signed National-Letters-of-Intent in November 2013.
"Emma is a great all-around athlete," Turner said. "She'll bring depth to the lineup as well as a hardnosed and competitive attitude because of her international experience."
An infielder, Entzminger played alongside current Spartan Chelsea Jenner on Team Canada at the 2013 International Softball Federation Junior Women's World Championship in Brampton, Ontario. Entzminger was also a member of Team British Columbia at the 2013 Canada Summer Games, which won the gold medal.
"Her international experience blends well with our other international players," Turner said. "That will give her a step up coming in as a freshman that others may not have."
The native of Victoria, B.C., Canada was named the 2013 Sport B.C. Female High School Athlete of the Year as a five-sport athlete; Entzminger also plays basketball, volleyball, soccer and tennis.
"Because she's so versatile in all sports," said Turner, "she can play every position on the field. Predominately, she'll play infield and we'll focus on her catching."
Entzminger will graduate from Lambrick Park Secondary in Victoria, B.C., Canada, in 2014. She played for the Victoria Devils Softball Club.
