ITA Honors San Jose State Women's Tennis For Academics

Skillman, N.J.----- For the third consecutive year, the San Jose State University women's tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-Academic Team award.

The 2013-14 Spartans met the ITA's benchmark of a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.00 scale. San José State was among the 136 NCAA Division I teams and one of the six Mountain West schools to earn the award. Of the six NCAA Division I institutions in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Spartans are the only one to earn a 2013-14 team award.

Six of the seven San José State team members also were named 2013-14 ITA Scholar-Athletes for possessing a 3.50 or better grade point-average for the academic year. Junior Jessica Willett (Fallbrook, Calif.), a kinesiology major, earned her third ITA Scholar-Athlete Award. Junior Julianna Bacelar(Goiania, Brazil), a business management major who finished her second season at San José State, was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the second year in a row.

Freshmen Gaelle Rey (Geneva, Switzerland), Marie Klocker (Mulhouse, France), sophomore Justine Deleval (Grimaud, France) and senior Sabastiani Leon Chao(San Diego, Calif.) are ITA Scholar-Athletes for the first time.

In the last three years, all with Sylvain Malroux as San José State's head coach, the Spartans earned 11 ITA Scholar-Athlete awards.
