Blick Headed To U.S. Amateur Championship

July 16, 2014

San José State men's golfer Cody Blick punched his ticket to the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship after earning medalist honors in a qualifier held Monday at Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, Calif.

Blick shot 68-66-134 (-10) with 12 birdies and only two bogies on the way to his victory. He is now set to tee it up August 11-17 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Ga., at the U.S. Amateur Championship.

"This is why I play the game," Blick said. "I want to compete against the best and I want to win. I had solid feelings during the qualifier and I was able to figure out my short game. I'm very excited about this opportunity."

The USGA accepted 6,803 entries to qualify for the championship. Blick is one of 312 which made the cut and will be in Atlanta when the stroke-play portion of the championship begins on August 11.

Blick is set to return for his junior season on the SJSU men's golf team in 2014-15.
