San Jose State Football Picked Fifth In Conference Media Poll

Las Vegas, Nev.----- With 17 returning starters from last year's team, San Jose State University is picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West Conference's West Division for the 2014 football season.

The Mountain West made the announcement after tabulating votes from media members that cover the 12 football playing schools.

San José State finished with a 6-6 overall record and tied for third in the West Division with a 5-3 mark in its first season of Mountain West competition in 2013.

Defending conference champion Fresno State with 15 first-place votes edged San Diego State for the top spot in the West Division, 174 to 172. The Aztecs also received 15 first-place votes. Nevada with three first-place votes was third with 130. UNLV with 95, San José State with 87 and Hawaii with 35 rounded out the voting for the West Division.

Boise State, Utah State, Colorado State, Wyoming, New Mexico and Air Force was the order of finish in the media poll for the Mountain Division.

The conference also announced a preseason all-conference team as voted by media members following nominations from the 12 schools. No San Jose State players were named to the 25-player squad of 11 offensive, 11 defensive and three special teams players. Nine of the 12 conference members had at least one selection.

The Mountain West Football Media Day begins Tuesday, July 22, with the schools in the Mountain Division fielding questions and participating in media activities from the approximately 150 media members that registered for the two-day event. San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher, defensive tackle Travis Raciti and wide receiver Tyler Winstonwill be representing the Spartans on July 23 when the West Division teams participate.
