Meet the Spartans - International Players (mostly)

In the final installment of Meet the Spartans, we meet players from Brazil, Czech Republic and Puerto Rico.

Nandyala Gama, a 6-0 middle blocker, comes to San Jose from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There she attended Colégio Batista Shepard school and played club for Minas Tenis Clube.

"Nandyala has a huge physical presence at the net and can play several different positions," said Spartan head coach Jolene Shepardson. "Most of all, I am looking forward to the spirit she is going to bring to our team."

Hana Tresnáková, a 5-10 outside hitter, comes to the United States from Prague, Czech Republic. She has been successful both indoor and sand. She won a bronze medal in sand volleyball at the U22 2013 European Championships.

"Hana brings experience and a professional attitude to the team. More importantly, she has a fighter's mentality and a desire to win," said Shepardson.

While not technically an international student (since Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States), Yavianliz Rosado is included with these two players after signing over the summer. Rosado, a 5-6 libero, played for the Puerto Rico Under18 team and was named the Best Libero at the 2012 Plaza Vea Cup held in Peru.

"Yavianliz is a gutsy player with an intense ability to focus. I believe these characteristics were developed growing up in a competitive volleyball family. We're going to look to her to provide us with stability in our reception game and frustrate our opponents with her feisty defense," said Shepardson.
