Men's Soccer Downed At Sacramento State 2-1

Sacramento, Calif. - The San Jose State men's soccer team tied its match at 1-1 with Sacramento State in the 55th minute, but allowed a goal just four minutes later and fell 2-1 on Friday afternoon.

"We played poorly in the first half," head coach Simon Tobin said. "We played much better in the second half, but gave up that costly second goal after getting ourselves back into the game."

Sophomore Uriel Ayala played a beautiful pass into the box for freshman Greg Harte. Harte dove and headed the ball inside the near post for a 1-1 tie at the 54:49 mark.

The Spartans (1-4-0) had been chasing the equalizer since a 23rd minute, after Cylus Sandoval scored for the Hornets.

After San Jose State tied the game, Sacramento State (1-2-1) came right back and got what would turn out to be the game-winner at the 58:29 mark.

The Spartans out shot the Hornets 14-8 including 10-4 in the second half. Frankie Beauchamp led the side with three shots.

Two keepers played for San Jose State. Emmanuel Espinosa made two saves in the first half and allowed one goal. In the second half Felix Petermann, in his first action of the year, stopped three shots, but took the loss.
