Cary, N.C._---- The San José State University women's tennis doubles team of sophomores Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey lost their final match in the Duke Fab Four Invitational, 8-4, to the University of Alabama's Natalia Maynetto and Danielle Spielmann.
The Duke Fab Four featured a number of singles players and several doubles teams that earned an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason national ranking. The Spartans' pair of Klocker and Rey were ranked 46th in doubles in the preseason rankings - the highest for any Mountain West program.
"It was a great tournament to help us get better, now we are going to come back and work hard on things we need to improve. We saw some good tennis all weekend against the best college players," said San José State women's tennis head coach Sylvain Malroux about the opening weekend of the season for the Spartans. Klocker and Rey were the only representatives from a school west of the Rockies.
Besides playing three doubles matches, Klocker and Rey also squeezed in a four singles contests each. Klocker and Rey each won a consolation bracket match in straight sets.
