Billy Freeman Named To John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List

Oct. 13, 2014

New York, N.Y.----- San Jose State University sophomore Billy Freeman is one of 33 tight ends listed on the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List.

The award is named after the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee who revolutionized the position when he starred for the Baltimore Colts in the 1960's. Now in its 14th year, the John Mackey Award is presented to the nation's best college tight end.

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound Freeman began the season on the John Mackey Award preseason watch list. In 2014, Freeman has 12 receptions for 110 yards in the four games he played. He had his most productive game of the season on September 27 against Nevada with six receptions for 76 yards.

Freeman is the only Mountain West player on the John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List and one of four from a West Coast-based school.

Semifinalists will be named on November 17 and finalists will be identified on November 24. The 2014 John Mackey Award winner will be announced on December 10 and presented the next evening on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPNU.
