SAN JOSE, Calif. (10/15/14) - After four straight games on the road the San José State women's soccer team will return to Spartan Soccer Field for a pair of weekend Mountain West matches. The Spartans will host Colorado State on Friday, October 13 at 2:30 p.m. before welcoming Wyoming on Sunday, October 15 at 12:00 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
BOISE, Idaho (10/12/14) - Sophomore Claire Berkley scored her first career goal in the 60th minute to snap the San José State University women's soccer team four-game losing streak, defeating Boise State, 1-0 Sunday at the Boas Tennis/Soccer Complex.

After a Boise State foul in the 58th minute, Gabrielle Stange served the ball into the 18-yard box. Berkley, the Pleasanton, Calif. native then headed the ball from the right side of the box back into the near right post to beat Kylie Mascol for the match's only marker.

SJSU goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis continued her strong play in net for the Spartans, making five saves on the day, giving her a conference-high five clean sheets this season.

WATCHOUT FOR THE SHUTOUT
Junior goalkeeper is having one of the best seasons during her tenure in the blue, gold and white. Through 13 matches, Makrigiannis has held five opponents scoreless, a season-high, and is just one clean sheet away from the single season shutout mark of six accomplished by Meghan Maiwald in 2010.

So far, Makrigiannis has put together a clean sheet in 38% of the Spartans matches.

SCOUTING COLORADO STATE
Colorado State enters the weekend boosting an overall record of 4-10-0 while displaying a 2-4-0 mark in the Mountain West. Last weekend, the Rams were victorious in its first match on Friday against Air Force, 1-0, before falling to Colorado College, 3-2, in the weekend finale on Sunday.

Colorado State is led by junior forward Gianna Bertana who leads the Rams in points (9) and goals (4). The Rams will have a tough time cracking the Spartans top-ranked defense, as they have struggled offensively throughout the season ranking near of the Mountain West in shots (116), points (20), goals (7), and assists (6).

In the first ever meeting between the two schools last season, San José State shutout the Rams 1-0 at Spartan Stadium. Alexis Venegas scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute.

SCOUTING WYOMING
Wyoming enters the weekend with an overall record of 7-6-1, while showcasing an impressive 5-1-0 record in the Mountain West. The Cowgirls are currently riding a three-game winning streak beating Boise State (1-0), Colorado College (3-2) and Air Force (5-2).

Wyoming is led by freshman forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes, who leads the Cowgirls in goals (6) and points (15). Lomsnes six goals are currently tied for second in the conference, and her 15 points rank third.

SPARTAN DEFENSE
Through 13 games the Spartans have shutout five of its 12 opponents, allowing just nine goals, a Mountain West best. The 0.89 goals-against average is tops in the Mountain West.

Makrigiannis leads the Mountain West in save percentage (.806) and goals-against-average (0.90), while tied for the conference lead in shutouts (5).

ON DECK FOR THE SPARTANS
San José State will continue its four game home stand with visits from Colorado College on Friday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 26 to welcoming Air Force to Spartan Soccer Field at 12:00 p.m.

YOUTH SOCCER CLINIC
Following the match on Sunday, October 29 against Wyoming the San José State women's soccer team will be hosting a free youth soccer clinic for kids ages 6-13. Coaches and players will be running a 45-minute clinic to all kids who would like to participate. The first 50 players ready to go for the clinic will receive a Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Spartan Shirt.
