Spartans Finish 11th At MW Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - The San José State women's cross country team wrapped up its 2014 season with an 11th place finish in the Mountain West Championships on at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif.

"Big improvement since last season, and that's what we were looking for," said assistant coach Brad Wick.

Rebecca Garcia finished 48th with a time of 22:19, to lead the Spartans, while Jennifer Beckingham (54th, 22:22.700), Melanie Fujiwara (71st, 22:54.2), Lalida Maokhamphiou (74th, 23:00.5), Karina Nunes (76th, 23:19.9), Marissa Buckley (79th, 23:38.7), and Allison Kimura (83rd, 23:51.6) rounded out the field for San José State.

"Our girls have been running really well," said Wick. "Becca came out and competed, and Jenn has been dealing with some injuries this week, so was not 100%, but she ran strong."

New Mexico scored 33 points to claim the 2014 Mountain West Women's Cross Country Championship, while Emma Bates of Boise State led the field of 87 with a time of 19:37.3.

San José State will be back on the trail at the NCAA West Regionals in Stanford, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 14.
