Fresno, Calif. - The San José State men's cross-country team finished eighth in at the Mountain West Championships held at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 14.

"We had some big improvements from last season and that's what we were looking for," said assistant coach Brad Wick.

Elliott David took the top overall spot with a time of 23:38.7, while New Mexico claimed the 2014 Mountain West Men's Cross Country Championship by finishing with five runners in the top 10 with a score of 26.

Ben Branagh placed 21st with a time of 24:24.8 to lead the Spartans, while Craig Huff (34th, 24:43.6), Jannik Ernst (39th, 24:57), Josue Gonzalez (60th, 26:17.1), and Ian Young (65th, 27:57.5).

"Josue had an unexpected injury pop up this week," said Wick. "Today, he just could not brush it off, but he still wanted to give it a go. Ben ran really well today, he has had such a huge improvement. Also, our freshman Craig Huff did really well."
