San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State men's basketball team was unable to overcome a near 10-minute scoring drought in the second half, and fell to Pepperdine, 63-44, in the Event Center on Wednesday night.

A Frank Rogers three-point basket made the score, 35-31, Pepperdine (3-0) lead with 17 minutes left in the second half. But it would be another 9:45 until Rashad Muhammad knocked down the Spartans' next shot. The drought helped Pepperdine to a 20-5 run.

"You can't have those stretches," said San José State head coach Dave Wojcik. "If you have those stretches you are going to get beat. It's a process with these guys, and they have to continue to learn. We will get better and we will continue to work. I told them, the only thing I know is, we have to come right back here tomorrow ready to work."

Frank Rogers finished the game with nine points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (1-2). Rashad Muhammad also had nine points.

"They were playing good defense, but we just have to take care of the ball," Muhammad said. "We had a lot of turnovers in the open court and that's just unacceptable."

San José State went on a 10-0 run of it's own late in the second half, but a 21 point Pepperdine lead and 11 second-half turnovers were too much to overcome.

Jett Raines led the way for Pepperdine with 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Stacy Davis added 13 points and Jeremy Major put in 10 for the Waves.

Next up, San José State hits the road for the first time this season to face Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, November 22, at 2:00 p.m.
