SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State University's women's tennis team capped off its 2014 fall slate with another impressive day at the San José State Invitational.
The Spartans swept Santa Clara in doubles behind wins from Julianna Bacelar and Marie Klocker, Abbie Pahz and Gaelle Rey, and Jessica Willett and Malin Cubukcu. Bacelar and Klocker's three-set triumph over Chelby Cooke and Daniella Silva moved the duo's record to 6-0 since they teamed up for the first time at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
In singles, San José State won three-of-five matches against the University of San Francisco in the afternoon session. Klocker, Pahz and Cubukcu picked up victories for the Spartans for a second straight day.
Overall, San José State finished with a 23-8 record on the weekend.
"Today was another good day where we did well again in both doubles and singles," said head coach Sylvain Malroux. "It's always nice to finish a tournament strong, and we did."
The San José State Invitational marks the end of the fall campaign for the Spartans. The spring season gets underway with the Training Camp Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. from Jan. 11-16 ahead of the Spartans' season-opener at Oklahoma State on Jan. 17.
"This fall has been all about working hard and improving to be successful this spring," Malroux said. "Our team responded really well and we are very proud of their hard work and dedication. We cannot wait to start our spring season."
