San Jose, Calif. --- In a match which featured a combined 28 shots, there was just one put into the back of the net, handing San José State a 1-0 loss to Utah Valley in Western Athletic Conference (WAC) action at Spartan Soccer Field on Sunday.

The Spartans (6-10-2, 4-4-2 WAC) outshot the Wolverines (9-6-2, 5-3-2 WAC) 10-3 in the first half. However, a through-ball cut through the San José State defense and ended on the feet of Matt Gay who rolled in the game-winner for Utah Valley in the 16th minute.

"I've got a lot of players with knocks and we didn't risk quite a few of them today," said Spartans' head coach Simon Tobin. "I don't want to say I don't care about losing, but our focus is on Thursday. That being said I don't think we were threatening enough in the final third to cause them enough problems today."

Five Spartan seniors: Andrew Kelly, Frankie Beauchamp, Andy Moya, Jamison Loveless and Enrique Montano were honored Sunday before playing in their final match at home.

"Since I stepped on campus and started training these guys they've been model professionals and have worked very hard," Tobin said of the group. "They bought into what we are trying to do, and I congratulate all five of them. I hope they can finish off their careers with a conference championship."

San José State begins play in the WAC Championship tournament on Thursday, November 13.
