San José, Calif.--Freshman Kaitlin Won won her first all-around title of her Spartan career Friday night, and Amy Bellingham won her first beam title to help the San José State women's gymnastics team score a 194.750 Friday night. The Spartans fell to California by just .125 as the Golden Bears won the meet with a 194.875, and Wisconsin-La Crosse scored a season-best 188.850 at The Event Center.

Won scored a season-best 38.950 to win her first all-around title. She tied for third on the beam with a season-best 9.750 and added a 9.650 on vault and season-bests of 9.750 on bars and 9.800 on floor. Maddie Herr finished a close second in the all-around with a 38.925. Herr had scores of 9.700 on vault, 9.675 on bars, 9.725 on beam and 9.825 on floor.

Bellingham scored a career-best 9.800 on beam to win her first apparatus title in her Spartan career. She helped the beam team score a season-best 48.750. Marissa Unpingco and Won scored a 9.750, followed by Kiley Field, Cami Guyer and Herr at 9.725.

The Spartan floor team scored a 49.125 in the final rotation, tying for the 10th-highest floor score in school history. Alyssa Montalban and Guyer each scored a 9.875 to lead the team. Herr added a 9.825, followed by Won at 9.800, Field at 9.750 and Mackenzie Douglas at 9.675.

San Jose State and Cal battled all night long for the top team score. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead after the first rotation with the Spartans scoring a 48.500 on vault, and Cal having to count a fall on beam for a 47.800. SJSU maintained the lead after two rotations 96.875-96.675.

Cal had two strong final rotations on vault and bars. The Golden Bears took a 145.725-145.625 after three rotations. The team scored a 49.050 on vault, while the Spartans had a 48.750 on beam. The two teams made it interesting in the final rotation with Cal scoring a 49.150 on bars and the Spartans scoring a 49.125 on floor, giving Cal the win by a slim .125.

On vault, Spartan Rachel Heinl finished tied for second with a career-best 9.825. Herr scored a 9.700, Montalban at 9.675, Hannah Gilbert and Won at 9.650 and Guyer at 9.550.

On bars, Won led the team with a 9.750. Douglas tied her season-best with a 9.700, followed by Herr at 9.675, Heinl at 9.650, Unpingco at 9.600 and Guyer at 8.875.

San José State next competes on Sunday, January 25, in a quadrangular at California with Arizona State and Denver. The meet begins at 2 p.m.
