Jan. 23, 2015 San Jose, Calif. - San José State softball player Michelle Cox has been selected as a member of Softball Australia's 2015 Open Women's Squad, it was announced on Friday in Collingwood, Australia.
Cox, a senior outfielder from Sydney, is one of 24 athletes who will represent her country in several international competitions over the coming months as a lead up to the International Softball Federation's (ISF) Women's Softball World Championship from July 15-24, 2016, in Surrey, Canada.
Her selection marks the fourth time in five year's Cox has been on her national squad. In 2012, she was a member of the bronze-medal winning Aussie Spirit Australian Open Women's team at the ISF Open Women's World Championship.
Cox is the third member of the 2015 San José State softball program to earn selection to a national team. She joins freshman Emma Entzminger (Canada) and Assistant Coach Chase Turner (USA Men's Team), who were named to their respective national teams in the past two months.
Cox and the Spartans open the 2015 season on February 5-8 with six games in the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The team's first home game is March 20, when it opens Mountain West Conference play hosting Boise State in a three-game series.
