La Jolla, Calif.----- Diver Cari Reiswig and swimmers Riley Spitser, Michaela McLean and Morgan McCormick each won two individual events as the San José State University women's swimming and diving team remained unbeaten in dual meet action defeating UC San Diego and Colorado Mesa University.
The Spartans (8-0) had a first-place finisher in 13 of the 16 events defeating host UC San Diego, 186-110, and Colorado Mesa, 236-61, at the Canyonview Aquatic Center.
"I'm very pleased with our performances of the last three days," said San Jose State head coach Sage Hopkins about the weekend that started with a dual meet at CSU Bakersfield and a relay meet at the University of San Diego. "Our goal was to get sharper and better each day. We had strong performances today.'
Reiswig won the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions handily with scores of 251.85 and 281.85, respectively, for six dives.
Spitser, from San Diego, extended her individual-event winning streak to 11 capturing the 500 and 1,000 freestyles in dual meet competition for the second time in three days. She also swam the anchor leg on San Jose State's winning 400 freestyle relay.
McLean was a multiple event winner for the first time in her career. The senior from San Diego was first in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.
"Today was her strongest dual meet performance of her college career," Coach Hopkins said about McLean, who also helped get the Spartans started on the right track swimming the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay.
McCormick, from Golden, Colo., finished first in the 200 backstroke and the 400 individual medley and preceded McLean in the pool on the Spartans' 200 medley relay winner.
Dominique Yoder, in the 100 breaststroke, Kayla Nakamoto in the 200 butterfly, and Taylor Solorio in the 100 freestyle also touched first for San Jose State in their respective races.
The Spartans' next dual meet is at Mountain West opponent Nevada on January 24. San Jose State divers Reiswig and Kylie Fonseca are expected to compete in the Bruin Dive Invitational, January 17-18 on the UCLA campus.
