The San José State women's gymnastics team looks for its first conference championship since 2004 this Saturday, March 21, at the 2015 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Gymnastics Championships held at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
The meet will be held at the Alaska Airlines Center on the UAA campus and begins at 6 p.m. ADT/7 p.m. PDT. Live stats and live video of the meet are available on www.goseawolves.com with links on www.sjsuspartans.com.
San José State is one of six teams competing for the MPSF Championship - Air Force, Alaska Anchorage, UC Davis, Sacramento State, Seattle Pacific and the Spartans. The team's competition order is floor-vault-bye-bars-beam-bye.

The Spartans enter the meet with a 194.845 regional qualifying score, tops in the league. UC Davis is second at 194.795, while Sacramento State has a 194.505 RQS.
This season, the team has recorded three of the program's top-16 scores in school history. The Spartans scored a 195.675 in the team's final home meet of the season against Sacramento State, Utah State and Seattle Pacific. The team started March with a 195.150 at the Master's Classic at Nebraska and had a 195.125 at Sacramento State on February 13.
HEAD COACH
Spartan head coach Wayne Wright is in his 14th year at the helm of the program. He has coached all seven San José State regional qualifying teams and taken three individual competitors to the NCAA Championships.
Wright is assisted by associate head coach Shella Martinez who is in her 11th season with the Spartans. She is primarily responsible for the beam team and is the team's recruiting coordinator. Former Spartan Alise Blackwell joined the Spartan coaching staff this season as an assistant coach, while 2014 MPSF Gymnast of the Year Julia Greer is in her first year as the director of operations.
ALL-AROUNDERS
Senior Cami Guyer leads the team into the meet with a 39.130 RQS. She is the team's top performer this season on vault and floor and is in contention for the league's top gymnast honors. Guyer has scored a 39.000 or better in the all-around in seven meets including a streak of five straight. She has been named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week three times and won nine titles over the season including three all-around titles.
Junior Maddie Herr is the team's second all-around performer and Spartans' top performer on bars and beam. Herr is second on the team in the all-around with a 39.010 RQS. A transfer from The Ohio State University, she has the team's top score on bars with a 9.875 twice this season and has won four titles on the event. Herr also has the team's top beam score of 9.850, recorded in the team's last home meet of the season on March 8 against Sacramento State, Utah State and Seattle Pacific.
Freshman Kaitlin Won is the team's third all-around performer and has a 38.990 RQS. A solid performer, she has recorded a 39.000 or better in four meets including the past three. She won the all-around against California and UW-La Crosse and at the Texas Woman's Quad meet. Her best all-around score came in the team's final home meet of the season with a 39.150.

Vault
The Spartans lineup consists of Guyer, Herr, Won, Hannah Gilbert, Rachel Heinl and Alyssa Montalban. This team has recorded or tied three of the program's top-five scores this season. The team scored a season-best 49.075 on March 8, a 49.000 at the Master's Classic on the first day of March, and a 48.950 last weekend at Oregon State. Guyer has the team's best score of the season with a 9.900 in the final home meet of the season on March 8 to win the event. Heinl placed third at the Oregon State Quad meet with a career-best 9.850.
Bars
The bars lineup consists of Guyer, Herr, Won, Heinl, Mackenzie Douglas, Alyssa Kaschak and Marissa Unpingco. The team scored a season-best 49.000 at the Master's Classic hosted by Nebraska. That score is the seventh-best in school history. Herr holds the team's top score on the event with a 9.875 at the California Quad in late January and the Oregon State Quad last weekend. Won recorded a 9.850 at the Masters Classic, while Guyer had a 9.825 at Sacramento State and at the Masters Classic.
Beam
The beam lineup features Guyer, Herr, Won, Allison Bellingham, Amy Bellingham, Gabrielle Kambur and Marissa Unpingco. The beam team cracked the 49.000 threshold on March when they tied for the second-best score in school history at 49.075. Herr had a team-best 9.850 in the quad meet on March 8 to win the event. Guyer won the event twice and had a season-best 9.825 in the March 8 meet.
Kambur was second at Southern Utah with a career-best 9.825. Won and Guyer each had a 9.825 in the team's final home meet of the season. Amy Bellingham won the first beam title of the season with a 9.800 against California and UW-La Crosse.
Floor
Finally, on floor, the lineup consists of Kiley Field, Douglas, Won, Montalban, Herr and Guyer. This season the floor team has scored a 49.000 or better twice - a 49.125 against Stanford in January and a 49.350 last weekend at Oregon State. Guyer has the team's top score on the event with a 9.900 at Oregon State. Herr and Douglas each recorded a 9.875 last week. Montalban had a 9.875 in a home meet with California and UW-La Crosse.
SPARTANS AT THE MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS
San José State won its only MPSF Championship in 2004 when the Spartans hosted the meet in Spartan Gym. Former Spartan Jennifer Greene posted the school's only perfect-10 in any event on the floor to win the title. The Spartans also set a school record with a 195.925 team score. Shirla Choy won the bars title with a school-record 9.950, while Amberly Klein won the beam with a 9.850.
Last year, the Spartans placed third at the championships in Davis with a 194.550. Julia Greer tied for second on floor at 9.850, while Cassandra Harrison was second in the all-around with a 39.125.
Overall, the team has competed in five MPSF Championships with one championship, two seconds and two thirds. Individually, Spartans have won titles on vault (Dani Albright 2003), bars (Shirla Choy 2003 & 2004), beam (Amberly Klein (2003 & 2004), floor (Shirla Choy 2002; Dani Albright 2003; Jennifer Green 2004) and all-around (Shirla Choy 2003).
