#9-Women's Water Polo Loses At #6-Arizona State, 12-4

Tempe, Ariz.----- The San Jose State University women's water polo team suffered its most one-sided defeat of the season in a 12-4 loss to Arizona State in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match.

The #9-ranked Spartans (16-7, 0-3 MPSF) trailed the entire contest to the #6-ranked Sun Devils (14-4, 2-1 MPSF). San Jose State came within a goal twice in the second quarter, but Arizona State's Daisy Carter scored twice in a 38-second span near the end of the first half giving the Sun Devils a 6-3 lead. Carter finished the match with four goals matching teammate Petra Pardi for game-high scoring honors.

Fueled by Carter's second-half goals, the Sun Devils scored six more times before Rae Lekness of San Jose State closed out the match's scoring with a goal with 1:01 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Clara Espar Llaquet, the Spartans' leading scorer and number-two overall in the MPSF, scored San Jose State's first goal of the match and her 70th of the season, but fouled out at 0:18 of the second quarter.

Timi Molnar and Bianca Seyfert rounded out the Spartans' scoring with a goal each.

Arizona State goalkeeper E.B. Keeve was credited with a career-high 21 saves. San Jose State goalkeeper Katelynn Thompson stopped six shots.

The Spartans complete their three-game series at Arizona State with contests against unranked Redlands and Hartwick on March 22.
