Eugene, Ore. --- The San José State men's golf team shot a 16-over-par 304 in the final round of the Duck Invitational on Tuesday and finished in 10th place out of 15 teams.
The Spartans shot 298-302-304-904 (+40) in the 54-hole event, played at the 7,020-yard, par 72, Eugene Country Club. Cody Blick shot 73-74-73-220 (+4), and was SJSU's top finisher in a tie for 17th place.
"We just didn't get off to the best of starts, and it never got any better," said San José State head coach John Kennaday. "I'm not quite sure why yet, but we just didn't get it done today."
Blick and Scott Munger both shot 73 in the final round. It was the low round of the event for Munger after he shot 79-74 on Monday. He finished tied for 41st place at +10.
Taylor Bromley's even-par 72 in round one was the lowest 18-hole score of the event for SJSU. He closed out with back-to-back 78's and finished in a tie for 50th place.
Matthew Ashley shot 76-76-80-232 (+16) to finished tied for 62nd. Landon Polterock tied for 75th after shooting 77-79-82-238 (+22).
"A result like this creates fuel for our team," Kennaday said. "It creates fuel because we all know we are much better than this."
#4-Arizona State shot -1 as a team for the tournament for a six-shot victory over #13-Washington. Fourth-ranked John Rahm at -4, and 20th-ranked Max Rottluff at -3 for the Sun Devils finished first and second respectively on the individual leaderboard.
San José State turns around quickly to play in The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, beginning Thursday, March 26.
