SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San José State's women's tennis team plays its last back-to-back of the regular season, as the 55th-ranked Spartans host No. 68 Hawai'i on Thursday and UNLV on Friday.
San José State rose to No. 55 in the ITA rankings after last week's impressive 6-1 victory over then-No. 72 San Diego State. In that match, the Spartans swept doubles play and won four of its five singles points with straight-set wins.Â
The doubles tandem of Malin Cubukcu and Sybille Gauvain has given the Spartans a boost of late. The freshman duo won the Spartans' only match at No. 19 Arizona State and kept it rolling against San Diego State to move to 3-0 in dual match play this spring.
With her pair of wins against SDSU, Julianna Bacelar climbed to 123 total wins in her San José State career. Bacelar's total is good for third in program history, trailing only Chau Truong's 128 wins and Sabastiani Leon Chao's 132. Â
The Spartans close out the season with a home match against Academy of Art on March 12 and a visit to Nevada on March 18.Â

Hawai'i is back in the rankings this week after spending eight consecutive weeks there earlier in the season, including rising as high as No. 48 at the end of February. The Rainbow Wahine has won three of its last four matches and is coming off a 6-1 victory over the Spartans' Friday opponent, UNLV. Sophomore Cindy Nguyen is the 83rd-ranked singles player in the country, recording a 12-4 mark at the top spot in the lineup. Â
Last season, the Spartans topped the Rainbow Wahine by a 5-2 tally in the second match of the season.Â

UNLV has struggled of late, entering the weekend as losers of six of their last seven. The Rebels are 1-0 in Mountain West play after downing Colorado State, 6-1, back in February. Sophomore Paola Artiga leads the way with a 14-3 record at No. 3 singles. Â
