Santa Cruz, Calif. --- The San José State men's golf team shot +48 over the first two rounds of the 69th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Saturday.
 The Spartans were able to get all 36 holes in before darkness set in, however 22 players from six teams were unable to finish before play was stopped.
Cody Blick got off to a rough start, making bogey on this first hole followed by and eight on the second. But Blick managed to shake it off to go +2 the rest of his round, and carded a 1-under 69 in round two. In a tie for 31st place at +6 overall, Blick is the low-man for SJSU.
Brett Thawley turned in two counting score for SJSU on Saturday, shooting 73-76-149 (+9). He's second among the Spartans and and in a tie for 44th place overall.
Landon Polterock shot 76-74-150 (+10), and Taylor Bromley shot 75-77-152 (+12). The two sit in 54th and 64th respectively. Scott Munger is +13 and in a tie for 71st.
"I'm proud of the way we battled," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "If we keep hitting the ball like we did today, the scores will drop. I'm proud of the way we battled."
Matthew Ashley, also in the Spartans' starting lineup, shot 78-77-155 (+15).
Texas' Scottie Scheffler shot 66-68-134 (-6) and currently leads all individuals. Stanford was able to compete 36 holes as a team and at +12, holds a five shot lead over the Longhorns.
Those players which didn't finish round two will complete their round beginning at 7:30 a.m. (PDT). The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. (PDT).
