Seeking its first win in three weeks, the #8-ranked San Jose State University women's water polo team concludes its regular season hosting CSU Bakersfield in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match, Saturday, April 18. Match time at The Aquatics Center is 1:00 p.m.
The match will be streamed live on www.sjsuspartans.com/videos.
The Spartans (18-9, 0-5 MPSF) remained eighth in the weekly Collegiate Water Polo Association national coaches poll after losing at #3-USC, 21-6, on April 11. Both San Jose State and CSU Bakersfield (12-14, 0-5 MPSF) faced similar fates the last two weekends losing to now-#1-ranked Stanford and USC by one-sided scores.
The winner of the April 18 contest will be the #6-seed in next week's MPSF Tournament and face the #2-seed. The winner of the #2-UCLA vs. #3-USC match taking place at the same time in Los Angeles will play the San José State-CSU Bakersfield loser in an April 24 quarterfinal contest hosted by Arizona State.
The match against CSU Bakersfield also marks the final home contest for five Spartans. Co-captains Timi Molnar and Dani Styles, Victoria Smith, Morgan Small and Amanda Pike will be recognized during pre-match festivities. Molnar, third, and Smith, 12th, rank among the top goal scorers in San José State history. Smith and Styles will be honored at the University's annual Honors Convocation at the end of month as Dean's Scholars. Pike, Small and Styles were among 177 San José State student-athletes honored in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day for superior performances academically and athletically and participating in community-service activities.
Prior to the MPSF match with CSU Bakersfield, the Spartans will play an exhibition contest against a touring team from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Saturday, April 18, at 9:00 a.m.
