Spartans Close Busy Weekend With A Relay Win And Another PR

April 4, 2015

The San José State women's outdoor track and field team took victory in the 4x100 relay and got a new personal-best from Jade Childs in the 100-meter hurdles event on the closing day of a busy weekend at the San Francisco Distance Carnival and Stanford Invitational.

Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw, Caitlin Wilson, Makayla Webb and Maija Pinkins combined for a winning time of 46.98 in the 4x100 relay at the Distance Carnival. It was a new season-best for SJSU in the event.

"This was the first time with Kelsey (Johnson-Upshaw) leading," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "I think this group has the ability to clean some things up and be even faster in another race."

A couple of weeks ago at the Fresno State Twilight, Childs tied her personal-record in the 100-meter hurdles. On Saturday she beat it, clocking a time of 14.01, which gave her the top collegiate time at the Distance Carnival.

"We got a lot of good results this weekend at both meets," Petersmeyer said. "Jennifer Beckingham's lifetime best yesterday in the 1500. Rebecca Garcia's lifetime best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. And Jade's PR in today 100 hurdles. We are seeing a lot of improvement and that is what you want to see at this point in the season."

The Spartans' next meet is Saturday, April 11 at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
