Mesa And Sun Angel Classics Up Ahead For Women's Track & Field

The San Jose State women's outdoor track and field team is set to compete in Phoenix, Ariz., this weekend beginning Friday at the Mesa Classic and continuing Saturday at the 36th Sun Angel Track Classic.

The Mesa Classic, hosted by Mesa Community College at John D. Riggs Stadium, takes place Friday, April 10. The Spartans are scheduled to compete in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, high and long jumps and the 4x100 relay. The action shifts Saturday to the Sun Angel Classic, hosted by Arizona State in Sun Angel Stadium. Fifteen San José State athletes will compete in nine events, capped off by Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw, Makayla Webb, Caitlin Wilson and Maija Pinkins competing in the premier 4x100 relay. The group clocked the fastest 4x100 time of the season last week at the SF State Distance Carnival.

Jennifer Beckingham, coming off of a personal-best 4:26.82 in the 1500 at the SF State Distance Carnival, will run in the 800 and 1,500-meter events at the Sun Angel Classic.

Jade Childs is also fresh off of a personal-record 14.01 in the 100-hurdles, and is scheduled to run the event in both the Mesa and Sun Angel Classics. The high jump at the Mesa Classic is also on the slate for Childs this weekend.
