Woodland, Calif.----- For the second time in the last three years, nine San José State University women's water polo players were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic team.
Seniors Dani Styles (Laguna Niguel, Calif/Dana Hills HS), Victoria Smith (Vancouver, B.C.) and Timi Molnar (Budapest, Hungary); juniors Rae Lekness (Calgary, Alberta) and Brittany Krappe (Portola Valley, Calif./Menlo Atherton HS); and sophomores Clara Espar Llaquet (Barcelona, Spain), Donia Momen (Vancouver, B.C.), Cara Robinson (Calgary, Alberta) and Katelynn Thompson (Penryn, Calif./Del Oro HS) earned the conference honor by possessing at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average, having sophomore or higher academic standing, being enrolled at San Jose State for at least a year and participating in at least half of the team's matches.
Smith, Molnar, Lekness, Espar Llaquet, Robinson and Thompson were starters on the Spartans team that finished with a 21-10 win-loss record and was ranked eighth nationally in the final coaches poll.
For Molnar, Smith and Styles, the 2015 recognition was their third as a member of the Spartans. Lekness, the team's number-two scorer in 2015 with 66 goals, became a two-time award winner. Espar Llaquet, Krappe, Momen, Robinson and Thompson earned their first MPSF all-academic honor.
Thompson's 3.81 and Robinson's 3.72 cumulative grade-point averages were the two highest among the 45 honorees from the seven conference members. In 2014, San José State's Molnar had the highest cumulative grade-point average.
The MPSF's announcement is the second in two days conveying the Spartans' academic success. In the 2015 NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, San Jose State's score of 996 out of 1,000 was an all-time best for the program.
