Women's Tennis Lands At No. 73 In Final ITA Poll

San José State's women's tennis team finished the season ranked No. 73 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the season, published on Tuesday.

The 2015 campaign marks the second time in three years the Spartans have finished the season nationally ranked, after the 2013 squad graced the final rankings for the first time at No. 63.

This season, San José State spent the final 10 weeks of the season as a nationally ranked team, including a program-best No. 53 ranking in the March 17 iteration of the poll.

The Spartans finished the campaign with a 14-7 overall mark and a 3-1 record in Mountain West action. After opening the season with back-to-back road losses at No. 19 Oklahoma State and No. 27 Tulsa, respectively, San José State rallied to win seven of its next nine matches.

After playing just two home matches in the first two months of the season, the Spartans swept four consecutive matches at Spartan Courts beginning at the end of March, including a pair of wins over No. 72 San Diego State and No. 68 Hawai'i.

San José State opened the 2015 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-1 win over Utah State and held a 3-1 lead over No. 61 New Mexico in the semifinals before the Lobos stormed back to claim a 4-3 win. The loss prevented the Spartans from reaching the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

Sybille Gauvain and Marie Klocker received All-Mountain West singles honors, and the tandem of Klocker and Gaelle Rey garnered all-conference doubles recognition. The duo of Klocker and Rey became the first doubles tandem in San José State history to be named all-conference multiple times.

Gauvain went 11-8 at the top of the singles lineup in her debut season at San José State, including a win over then-No. 51 Alina Soltanici of Sacramento State. The freshman from Frejus, France, played every match atop the lineup for the Spartans, who went 9-0 as a team when Gauvain won her singles match. 

Julianna Bacelar finished her San José State career with 131 wins -- one win shy of tying Chau Truong for the career mark.
