Norfolk, Va.----- San Jose State University freshmen Cari Reiswig and Colleen Humel from the women's swimming and diving team were named honorable mention Scholar All-Americas by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for the 2014-15 academic year.
Humel, from Chicopee, Mass., and Reiswig, a diver from Galt, Calif., met the 3.50 grade-point average requirement and either competed in a NCAA Zone Diving Championship or achieved at least a NCAA Championship "B" time standard.
"I am thrilled to learn of Cari and Colleen being named to the Scholar All-Americn team. This is the first time we've had multiple student-athletes achieve this honor since 2008," says San Jose State University women's swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins. Former Spartan swimmers Heather Denman and Meghan McCurley earned this academic award in 2008.
"Cari and Colleen had tremendous freshman years both academically and athletically, and I am excited about their futures here at San Jose State University!"
Reiswig was an all-conference diver for the Spartans. She was fourth in the 1-meter dive and fifth in the 3-meter event at the Mountain West Championships. Reiswig went on to finish
Humel, an All-Mountain West swimmer in the 200 backstroke, placed fifth in the event at the Mountain West Championships and swam a NCAA Championships "B" cut mark with her time of 1:58.06.
