Seaside, Calif. --- San José State University men's golfer Cody Blick is returning to the U.S. Amateur Championship as he was the top qualifier amongst 72 other participants at a qualifying event held on Monday at Bayonet Black Horse Golf Club (Bayonet Course) in Seaside, Calif.
The senior-to-be shot 67-69=136 (-8) with one eagle and nine birdies on the way to a two-stroke victory. He will tee it up at the U.S. Amateur Championship held August 17 - 23 at the two-time U.S. Open venue Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.
Blick also qualified for last year's U.S. Amateur Championship where he missed advancing to the top 64 match play round by just two strokes after making it to the field of 312 through qualifying.
Spartan teammates Matthew Ashley and Brett Thawley also competed in the same Bayonet Course qualifier shooting 70-71=141 (-3) and 72-72=144 (even) respectively. Ashley's 141 score would have been good enough to qualify at more than 30 courses that hosted qualifiers.
