New Orleans, La.----- San Jose State University football senior Joe Gray is one of 30 quarterbacks listed on the 2015 Manning Award Watch List. Created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the award honors the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Gray became a starting quarterback at the major college level for the first time during the 2014 season. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound signal caller tied a Mountain West single-season record with five consecutive games passing for 300 or more yards. He finished the year completing 63.6 percent of his passes for 2,305 yards and 11 touchdowns. Gray also was second on the Spartans with three rushing touchdowns.
He is the only Mountain West quarterback listed on the Watch List.
"We have had the opportunity to recognize 11 outstanding quarterbacks with the Manning Award," said Paul Hoolahan, Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO. "It is truly a great honor for the Allstate Sugar Bowl to sponsor this award and we wish the best of luck to every quarterback and team in the country for another great year of college football."
"We're very excited about the group of quarterbacks on our Watch List," said Archie Manning. "And once the season gets rolling, I am sure we will see additional quarterbacks become worthy of inclusion as they establish themselves, so we will make some additions."
Midseason additions to the Watch List will be announced on Wednesday, October 14. The list of 10 finalists will be released on Wednesday, November 25. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, January 13.
