San Jose, Calif. - The 2015-16 Spartans men's soccer opens its home schedule against a familiar foe, the Sacramento State Hornets, on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. on Spartan Soccer Field.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
San Jose State opened the regular season at Loyola Marymount on last Friday evening and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Lions. Five Spartans attempted one shot each and keeper Emmanuel Espinoza made five saves, but a turnover deep in the Spartans end led to the goal that proved to be the difference in the match. In the game, six of the Spartans 11 starters, Eddie Saydee, Ciaran Maguire, Alex Alcaraz, Zach Penner, Jonathan Partida and Mikhail Wingate-Pearce, made their debuts in a San José State jersey. Also making their debuts were Andrew Mendoza and Luis Vargas.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets finish up a three-game road swing to open its season at San José State on Friday. Sac State (0-2-0) fell to SMU 2-0 last Friday and then 2-1 at Tulsa on Sunday. The team's lone goal came from sophomore striker Cylus Sandoval. In goal, the Hornets have started junior Philip Bru and sophomore James Del Curto. Each allowed two goals in a complete game effort. Head Coach Michael Linenberger is in his 27th year leading the Hornets program.
THE SERIES
The Spartans enjoy a 30-15-4 lead in the overall series, which began in 1972. However, in available records, San José State is just 9-8-3 in games contested on its home field. The Hornets have taken the last two meetings, a 1-0 double-overtime win in Spartan Stadium in 2013 and a 2-1 decision last year in Sacramento. Both teams have had multi-game winning streaks with the longest owned by SJSU. The Spartans took the first 10 games contested. Sacramento State's longest streak was five games from 1987 to 1991.
