New York, N.Y.----- San Jose State University tight end Billy Freeman is one of two tight ends to receive honorable mention recognition for the John Mackey Tight End of the Week based on games played the weekend of September 26.
Freeman shared the team lead with five receptions and scored on a 9-yard reception in the Spartans' 49-23 victory over Fresno State in a Mountain West game.
For the season, the 6-foot-3, 232-pound junior from Mesa, Ariz., is third on the team in pass receiving with 15 receptions. His two touchdowns is tops on the squad.
University of Buffalo`s Matt Weiser, who caught 10 passes for 131 yards and scored a touchdown, earned the John Mackey Award weekly honor. Kentucky's tight end C.J. Conrad, who had three receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown, joined Freeman as an honorable mention selection.
San Jose State (2-2, 1-1 Mountain West) takes on Auburn (2-2, 0-2 SEC), Saturday, October 3, in a non-conference game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Game time is 3:00 p.m. (CT) with the SEC Network providing television coverage.
