Oct. 16, 2015

The San José State women's golf team is back in action next week at the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, from October 18 to 20 at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Spartans are one of 17 teams in the field (Golfstat rankings) - Northwestern (1), USC (2), Arizona (3), Georgia (5), Stanford (9), UCLA, Arizona State (11), Iowa State (14), Washington (17), California (24), San José State (36), Oregon (38), Vanderbilt (39), Auburn (49), Pepperdine (61), UC Davis (62) and Washington State (69)

The Spartan lineup for the tournament includes My Leander, Elizabeth Schultz, Regan De Guzman, Fanny Johansson and Cristina Glebova.

Tee times on Sunday and Monday start at 8:30 a.m., while Tuesday's final round begins at 7:30 a.m., off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Admission is to the tournament is free.

The last time out, San José State finished tied for first with UC Riverside at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. Leander finished third at 220, while Schultz was sixth at 221.

"Our top-three players have lots of experience on this course," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We have not gotten off to great starts at our tournaments. We need to have a better start and avoid the big numbers. If we do these things, we have the experience on this course to post low scores."

The Spartans have won this tournament twice - 1995 and 1996. Two players also won the individual title - Vibeke Stensrud in 1995 and Janice Moodie in 1996. Last year, the team finished 11th among 17 teams.
